As well as a lot of celebration across the world, New Year’s Eve will see two unusual stargazing events and one is so rare it occurs only once in a blue moon.While revellers see out the first decade of the 21st century, astronomers will enjoy witnessing the 13th moon of the year.Most years have twelve full moons, with one every four weeks – indeed the word ‘month’ comes from ‘Moon.’

However, each solar calendar year is around eleven days longer than a lunar year. This means that nearly every three years there is an extra full moon – also known as a ‘Blue Moon.’Europe and Asia will also be lucky enough to spot a partial lunar eclipse on the same evening.

The Lunar Eclipse will be taking place in India during night from 10:47 PM on December 31 and end at 02:58 AM on January 1, 2010.

Dr. Vishnuvardhan was suffering from some health hazards had been to Mysore for rest and yesterday he was admitted to Vikram Hospital Mysore after he complained of chest pain. After the treatment, he was returned to his house in the evening. Again he suffered same pain at 2.30. He breathed his last while he was being rushed to the hospital.

Vishnuvardhan did his primary schooling in Mysore’s Gopalswamy School and his middle school in Bangalore’s Kannada Madari School. His High School and his degree in the National College, Basavanagudi, Bengaluru.

Vishnuvardhan is popularly regarded as one of the most versatile, talented, stylish and popular actors in the Kannada film industry. His role in romantic, action, emotional, music, comedy or family dramas have been widely popular. His real name is Sampath Kumar and he adopted the name Vishnuvardhan at the instance of Puttanna Kanagal who directed his maiden film Nagarahavu.

He acted in 199 films, won 7 Filmfare Awards and many state government awards. He was also involved in public service and welfare activities of the film world. In 2005 he was awarded the honorary doctorate by Bangalore University.

All Schools and colleges in Kranataka will be closed on wednesday 30th december as a mark of respect to the great veteran actor. May his soul rests in peace.

C Ashwath a famous singer and master of Kannada Sugam passed away on 29th december 2009. He was 70 years old. He was suffering from abdominal pain and he was admitted to Columbia Asia Hospital in Bangalore on 17t december. He was reportedly suffering from liver and kidney problems.

He was born on December 29, 1939. He was graduated in Science from Bangalore University and later worked in Indian Telephone Industries for 27 years before retiring as an Executive Engineer in 1992. He started his musical career as a disciple of Devagiri Shankararao Joshi in Hindustani Music.

Ironically, 29th december also happened to be his birthday, he turned 70 on this day. A function was suppose to be held in Ravindra Kala Kshetra for this 70th birthday. All karnataka people will always remember him and pray that his soul rest in peace.

He was one of the key board members of RIL. He was one of the members who negotiated the deal for dutch company, LyondellBasell Industries from RIL side. He was very strong academically and was aver able manager. He was a cheical engineer and had passed out from Harvard Business School. He also served as as the chairman of Crisil.

India’s former ambassador to the United States Naresh Chandra on Saturday said that the detention of Bollywood superstar Shahrukh Khan at Newark International Airport for two hours, clearly exhibited the “ham-handed” approach of American security agencies. Reacting to the incident, Ambassador Chandra said: ” The authorities should have taken maximum 10 -15 minutes for questioning Shahrukh, but it took two hours. It is great incompetence and has lowered the image of (US) Homeland Security”. Chandra, however, said that making it a big diplomatic issue would be counterproductive because the incident had nothing to do with US policy, but was the handiwork of lowly officers deployed at the airport.

Superstar Shahrukh Khan was detained for about two hours early Saturday morning (around 1am IST) at Newark airport in the US because his surname featured on the most common list. The actor, who is visiting the US to attend a South Asian event where he was the guest of honour was released after Congress MP Rajiv Shukla spoke to the authorities in the US and the Indian counsulate. Shukla, who came to the actor’s rescue condemned this act saying, “It is really not fair. Just because he has a common surname does not mean that every Muslim can be taken as a suspect or considered to be a terrorist. The Amercian authorities should adopt a methodology so that well-known names like Shahrukh Khan and APJ Abdul Kalam are not harassed like this. They should focus on getting the actual suspects.’’
